The faces behind it

Jessie (24) holds a bachelor’s degree in Educational Sciences and has extensive work experience as a teaching assistant and after-school coach in primary education. She has always had a great love for books, and through her studies and work, Jessie discovered that she wants to pass this love on to young children and contribute to their reading development in that way. It has always been Jessie’s dream to write stories, and at Yousha Books she can combine this dream with her interest in promoting reading. In the future, she wants to further immerse herself in children’s literature in order to inspire as many children as possible to enjoy reading.

This is me as Yousha-Mieke. Honestly, I thought the system might crash when I entered my age (62), but I think the result turned out quite nice. I live in Gouda, in a tiny house by the museum harbor, where I raised my two children (now 22 and 24) with books and bedtime stories. These days, in their free time, they happily disappear into a thick fantasy series and read for pleasure. For their studies, it has proved very helpful that they are able to absorb long texts and have a large vocabulary because of this. After studying Spanish and English Language and Literature, I went on to translate stacks of thrillers as a literary translator. At the moment, I provide audio description for films and series, and I also very much enjoy writing children’s books.
